Hello, New Fudaners!

On the last two days of August, as late-summer breezes swept across Shanghai, Fudan University welcomed more than 5,100 undergraduate freshmen and over 13,000 graduate students from around the world to begin their studies at Fudan.

For the 2026-2027 academic year, Fudan admitted 824 international undergraduate students from 61 countries, representing a 65 percent year-on-year increase. The university also introduced four new undergraduate programs for international applicants: International Organizations and Global Governance, taught in English, alongside three Chinese-taught majors in Artificial Intelligence, Materials Science and Engineering, and New Energy Science and Engineering.

With these additions, Fudan now offers five English-taught undergraduate programs in total: the Undergraduate International Program in Economics (UIPE), the Global Bachelor of Fintech (GBF) program, the Undergraduate International Program in Data Science and Big Data Technology (UIPDB), the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Program, and the newly launched International Organizations and Global Governance (IOGG) program.

The momentum extended to graduate admissions as well. Fudan admitted 1,015 international graduate students from 77 countries and regions this year, also marking a 65 percent increase from the previous year.

This year’s orientation featured a range of digital upgrades, including playful robot dogs that greeted students and even helped carry luggage up the stairs.

After a one-year trial run, the International Student Service Center was officially inaugurated, continuing its commitment to providing dedicated support for students from abroad.

Staff and student volunteers were stationed across four campuses of Handan, Fenglin, Jiangwan and Zhangjiang to guide newcomers, explain procedures, and assist with luggage.

This year’s orientation was packed with interactive surprises. Students could chat with an AI assistant, strike a pose at a smart mirror with built-in ring lights and a writable surface for personalized selfies, or step into a photo booth where their pictures appeared on a mock newspaper front page.

To every new member of the Fudan community, whether you are beginning your undergraduate journey or taking the next step in your graduate studies, we wish you a year of intellectual curiosity, personal growth, and lasting friendships. May you embrace every challenge with courage, find inspiration in every corner of this campus, and carry the spirit of Fudan with you long after you leave.
